NAD doesn’t work with NFL & Superbowls. Only NAD is the Civil Rights Organization for The Deaf that was founded on August 25 1880 as the oldest civil rights organization for the Deaf in USA. Then NAD works for fighting for civil rights for the Deaf by improving lives in our deaf communities across our country for years.- In a fact I am the lifetime NAD member but not the NFL- Super Bowl fan.- Strongly I defend NAD at honestly as I support NAD as the civil rights organization for the Deaf fighting for fairness, equal rights for the Deaf in access and other deaf- related issues.- NFL and Super Bowls are the real foolhardy ones on the TV shows.- I focus on civil rights for the Deaf and for citizens with other disabilities, sciences, mathematics, medicine, and many other interested issues only.

Transcript/Summary: Hello. It is Saturday, July 6. I’ll give you a recap of the most important happenings at the NAD Conference in Chicago at the hotel behind me, the Sheraton. First, the new NAD Board was sworn in last night. (Video clip showing NAD Board taking oaths) After that, there was an exciting College Bowl game between Gallaudet and RIT/NTID. (Video clip of College Bowl trophy and of the teams) Gallaudet had a nice lead during the first two rounds. But then during the final round, RIT took a risk by doing “challenges,” which give you more points if you correctly answer questions but will deduct points if you are incorrect. RIT took many challenges and were correct in their answers and they rapidly caught up. They caught up on the last question to win. (Video clip showing RIT/NTID winning 108-107. Their fans are cheering as the team raises the trophy) This morning, the NAD Board hosted an open meeting. This was the first time we’ve seen Lisa Rose in her role as president leading a meeting. (Video clip of President Rose leading a board meeting) One of the important things was when the board agreed to hold their next meeting around September in Maine, to support the Maine Deaf community. They also said that the next NAD Conference in 2026 would be in San Francisco, California. They talked about some concerns about costs but they said they’d do their best to keep costs low. I met with the team behind SignSpeak, a new technology that can read and translate sign language into text or spoken voice. See what it looks like. (SignSpeak feature video) Nikolas Kelly: SignSpeak’s technology is based on artificial intelligence, which is a computer/machine. It can read your ASL signs and translate it into English. Brian Hertneky: I’ll show you. (Brian clicks on the SignSpeak app, which starts filming Brian. He signs, “Hello my name is Brian. How are you doing today?” The app pushes out a sentence that says, “Hello, my name is Brian. How are you doing today?”) (Video clip of Alex sitting on the SignSpeak booth to test out the product on a laptop. Nikolas gives Alex several instructions. Alex signs, “Hello. I love the city of Chicago.” The application pushes out a sentence that says, “Hello, I love/hug the city/community of Chicago.” Alex points out that the application gave two options for two of the words but that it correctly read his signs. He said that it’s amazing.) Yami Payano: SignSpeak received investment from the federal government, the NSF. We are also working hard to get more investments. Nikolas: Our goal is to put out tools and for the Deaf community to make choices in their everyday lives. (End SignSpeak feature) I went to a workshop hosted by the Rochester Deaf Kitchen. It’s an awesome project that is a collaborative effort between the Rochester School for the Deaf and a Deaf community member who is leading the effort. They receive delivers of food and distribute it to those in the Deaf community who have issues with food insecurity. They can come and pick up food. The kitchen said they’ve served over 22,000 people since August 2023 with over 145,000 pounds of food. They said they want to expand. It was a very positive thing. (Video clip of RDK’s workshop showing RSD Superintendent Anthony McLetchie and RDK leader Zach Ennis) The last thing today was a town hall, which was open to all. (Video clip showing a packed ballroom. President Rose says, “I’m excited) The main thing discussed was the new CEO search process. They said it could take several months to 18 months. They showed a long list of qualifications and expectations. That was typical of what you’d expect for a new CEO for a large organization like NAD. (Video clip showing NAD Vice President Stephanie Hakulin explaining several of the requirements for the new CEO) Things like management, leadership, knowledge, ability to run an organization, all that. Some in the audience asked if the CEO has to be Deaf. The NAD Board asked if they wanted a Deaf CEO. Most in the audience said the person has to be Deaf. The board said they expected the new CEO to be Deaf but said they couldn’t put it in writing due to EEOC / discrimination concerns. The NAD Board said they would bring in an independent entity to do a search process. The NAD will not do the search for the CEO, it’s going to be done by another entity. The NAD does have a consultant named Tiffany Williams, who is a Deaf woman and a business owner. She will give strategic consulting. Some in the town hall asked questions about the Super Bowl but the NAD Board sticked to the same script of saying that they didn’t want to look to the past but instead look forward. Others came up bringing various concerns. There was one serious concern from a DeafBlind person named Hunta Williams, who said they felt like the conference excluded DeafBlind participants because people didn’t really take the time to meet and interact with them. Hunta also said it was frustrating to try to attend workshops and to navigate, explaining that it was difficult at the hotel. The NAD President Rose said she understood, apologized, and said she would make a note of it for the next conference. The rest of the town hall went on with various questions and comments and then that was it. The 2024 NAD Conference in Chicago has wrapped up. Tonight there is a DNO Deaf Night Out event where many will attend - it’s going to be at another hotel, a different location. Then many will start leaving. Some have already left. I’ll be leaving tomorrow to go back to my studio and I’ll deliver Daily Moth news as usual. Thank you all for following my journey here at the NAD Conference and I want to thank the NAD for hosting the conference and bringing many Deaf people together. Transcript: Do you know the expression, “elephant in the room?” It means that there is a big, controversial topic or a problem that everyone knows about but does not talk about it. Here at the NAD Conference, the elephant that is “not” in the room is the former CEO Howard Rosenblum, who parted ways with the NAD in April after the Super Bowl ASL access controversy. I’ve been here since the beginning of the conference this week and I have not seen Howard in person nor his name mentioned during official NAD functions. There also has been almost zero official discussion, from as far as I’ve seen, of concerns about potential conflicts of interest with the NAD partnering with Alexis Kashar of Love Sign. Why is that? I’ve asked some NAD officials about it, but they are not able to provide much information. However, I do have information from sources familiar with this situation that I will share. Here are three things, in no particular order. - There is a separation agreement between Howard and the NAD that has some type of a very strict non-disparagement clause. This means the NAD is not able to make any type of negative statement about Howard and his actions as NAD CEO, including things related to the Super Bowl. If this clause is violated, the NAD could be sued by Howard and/or face financial penalties. This means that if the NAD Board found any potential misconduct, they cannot share or say it at all with the public. So Howard does have power and leverage over whatever the NAD shares with the public. - The NAD’s internal investigation found that the NAD spent a substantial amount of money on bringing its CEO and Alexis and others to Super Bowls, but did not reap financial benefits from Alexis and her business, Love Sign. During the Super Bowl weekend, Love Sign was able to get valuable exposure to its business, but did not reciprocate that to the NAD, as far as I know. So basically the NAD may have done a lot for a third party (Love Sign) that has no kind of obligation to the Deaf community or NAD members. - Alexis Kashar has a strong relationship with the NFL and the NAD has allowed Alexis to control the Super Bowl ASL access on behalf of NAD. This was done without the involvement of the NAD Board or staff. This area was under Howard’s direct control and he had a lot of power as the CEO. If the NAD Board made any type of recommendation about the Super Bowl ASL access that was not what Howard and Alexis wanted, it would be ignored because Alexis had the final say. I previously reported that Alexis, who is an attorney, often uses NDAs (nondisclosure agreements) in her work with the NAD, NFL, and Super Bowl performers. So that’s another layer of control that is given to Alexis on the NAD’s name, time, and money. That’s the three things: the non-disparagement clause, the money spent on Super Bowl, and Alexis controlling the NAD-NFL relationship. That’s the elephant in the room. Nobody is talking about it during official business. One thing I did take away from some conversations here is that the NAD has already implemented various policies and is trying to change how it’s handles things with the Super Bowl. The NAD previously said it would set up a committee to work on its relationship with the NFL and establish procedures on selecting Deaf performers. But what is unknown is whether Howard and Alexis are trying to maintain their relationship with the NFL to provide ASL access and doing it without the NAD’s support. The NAD could just step back completely from the NFL. I’ve reached out to Howard for comment but have not received a response. Another thing I took away is that some NAD officials and members are tired of the Super Bowl controversy because they feel that the NFL is just one very small thing out of all that the NAD is doing on a daily basis to fight for the rights of Deaf people. I’m sympathetic to that but in doing this report I’m following up on what was a huge Deaf community concern that did get the attention of at least one member of Congress. I definitely see that the NAD is doing hard and thankless work. It definitely has a huge place in the Deaf community and is able to bring so many influential people in one place. But there’s still an elephant in the room. Time will tell what happens to the elephant. [Sponsored video from Convo: www.convorelay.com]

Thank you for delivering news in ASL today! Here are my thoughts on some of the news that were shared. As for shark attacks reported in Texas and Florida, I hope all of the victims will recover okay. However, I wouldn't go to crowded beaches because there is so much indiscretion. As for Japan's top court saying the law forcing sterilization on disabled people is unconstitutional, the court made the right ruling. It is sad to see foolish men and women who have passed foolish laws as they did not have the proper understanding, wisdom, and love. As for Nikki Hiltz qualifying for Olympics, I will only say this with my First Amendment Rights of free speech and religion that this individual is foolish to be a transgender and nonbinary because first of all, God created male and female in the beginning and second of all, homosexuality and transgender are an abomination in the sight of God. As for Labour Party winning the election in U.K., I could care less as it is God who sets up and takes down rulers. As for the U.S. job report showing a steady slowdown in the labor market, this is a good indication that the economy is doing okay but it is up to companies to stop massive layoffs. I think there was one company in recent years that didn't want to lay off anyone so the executives focused on cutting expenses in other areas.

I never heard of bromine. Food banks have free vegetable oil and I've been discarding of these bottles' oils. Wondering if bromine can be found in oils used in cannabis products?
